At one time establishing mechanical procedures for

identification of morphemes was considered realisticgoal by structural linguists.But it did not take long before most linguists realised that it was impossible to develop a set of discovery procedures that would lead automatically to a correct morphological analysis. No scientific disipline purports to equip its practitioners with infallible procedures for arriving at correct theories.

Creative genius is needed to enable the scientists to make that leap into uncharted waters that results in a scientifics discovery.

The morpheme is the smallest difference in the shape of a word that correlates with the smallest difference in word or sentence meaning or in grammatical structure.

The analysis of words into morphemes begins with the isolation of morphs. A morph is a physical form representing some morpheme in a language . It is a recurrent distinctive

sound phoneme or sequence of sounds phonemes

If different morphs represent the same morpheme they are grouped together and they are called allomorphes of that morpheme
